Bingaman: Federal Grants to Benefit NM

U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman today announced that the University of New Mexico (UNM) has been selected to receive a $444,591 grant through the U.S. Department of Education.

The grant will benefit a high school equivalency program at UNM, which helps students who are engaged, or whose parents are engaged, in migrant and other seasonal farm work to obtain the equivalent of a secondary school diploma and go on to work or attend an institution of higher education or other postsecondary education or training.

"By helping students achieve their educational and career goals we also help create a skilled workforce for our state," Bingaman said.

Bingaman also announced a $50,000 grant to Ramah Navajo School Board from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Enterprise Program. The funding will be used to develop plans for the Cedar Bluff Travel Center and the Cedar Bluff Restaurant and Business Complex.

"This grant is an investment in the economy Cibola County, and will help lead to the creation of jobs for local residents," Bingaman said.
